Business Goals

  • Promote a boost in subscription revenue for Brivo Mobile Pass

  • Introduce Brivo Smart Home products to BMP's vast user base of over 1 million users and thereby increase Brivo’s Smart Home user base from 10,000 to 200,000 by 2025.

Team App Critique & Audit

Testing for pain points

To confirm our analysis, we performed a usability test on the current Brivo Smart Home experience using the Maze.co testing tool. Test results included:

  • Heatmaps of user clicks

  • Misclick rates

  • Durations in given tasks

  • % that did not complete tasks

Takeaways from Usability Testing

  • Majority of users misclicked to complete the given tasks

  • The most difficult task for them was creating a scene, with users expressing confusion about the way the screens were laid out

Next Steps & Reflections

Some next steps involve testing these new screens, refining designs, and moving into development. Reflecting on the initial design iteration, a few thoughts come to mind:

  • If we had done user interviews alongside team ideation and prototype testing, it might have provided more authentic and valuable insights into user pain points.

  • While prototype testing is valuable, hosting guided user tests over Zoom with screen sharing could offer a deeper understanding of the user experience, capturing real emotions and direct user quotes.

  • Collaborating closely with engineering and product teams throughout each stage of this process did wonders for generating ideas and gaining diverse perspectives on our users.
