What is Brivo Access?
Brivo Access is at the core of the company. With Brivo’s customer base of millions of users accessing thousands of doors per day, having one source of truth where all events of door access, locks, emergencies, users, etc. live is vital to the success of the company.
Business Goals
Promote a boost in subscription revenue for Brivo Access by 15%
Promote an increase of enterprise-level consumers by 20%
HMW include the most important features in the app?
After conducting 30+ user surveys, we discovered a common theme in what administrators interacted with on a daily basis within Brivo Access and features they’d like to have on-the-go. It was narrowed down to three main categories:
Event Tracking
User Management
Lockdown & Emergencies
Team Ideation
A senior designer on our team and I led a few workshops where we brought together product managers and designers to ideate on some solutions. Part of this workshop was asking stakeholders to sketch their ideal solutions to how we will display crucial features in the app.
Sketches to Wireframes
After ideating and narrowing down solutions to what we felt was most usable, intuitive, and easy to navigate, we brought these sketches to life in wireframes to clearly communicate the solutions with stakeholders before moving into a high-fidelity state.

User Testing
After high fidelity designs were completed and reviewed by Brivo stakeholders, we decided to conduct virtual moderated user testing with the prototypes we created. Overall, it was well received by administrators and many found it to be intuitive, efficient, and what they were looking for.
User Engagement Results
The most frequently visited page is event tracker, as suspected, since that is the page admins on Brivo Access spend the most time on.
The users page is surprisingly less interacted with when compared to viewing doors and activity; we think this may be due to admins mostly needing to check events and once a user is created, they don’t need to interact with the page.
